Trump campaign posts Thanos meme, totally misses point of ‘Endgame’

President Donald Trump‘s 2020 campaign team failed miserably on Tuesday after an Avengers: Endgame-inspired meme backfired spectacularly.

The “Trump War Room” Twitter account, used by the campaign to defend the president, shared a video depicting the commander-in-chief as arch-villain Thanos evaporating the Democratic House leadership with the infamous Infinity Gauntlet.

“House Democrats can push their sham impeachment all they want,” the tweet reads. “President Trump’s re-election is inevitable.”

There’s just one problem. Other than the fact that Thanos is a mass-murdering maniac hellbent on destroying all living creatures, the supervillain (spoiler alert) ends up losing in the end.

Not only that, the exact scene shown in the tweet is when Thanos’ finger-snap fails to even work. The tweet is literally a failure in every aspect.

Twitter users were quick to notice the Trump team’s disconnect and inability to catch such a significant gaffe.

“You’ve made Trump a supervillain and depicted him in the scene where his plan to kill everyone in the universe falls apart due to his arrogance and incompetence,” Twitter user @KevinMKruse wrote.

Many also noted the campaign’s choice in comparing the president to a character that commits “universal genocide.”

It’s good the president identifies with the character that commits-*check notes*universal genocide

Other Twitter users questioned whether Trump’s campaign team had even seen the movie.

“How are you the only motherf***ers who haven’t seen that movie,” Twitter user @Zeddary asked.

how are you the only motherf***ers who haven't seen that movie

— Zeddy (@Zeddary) December 10, 2019

Did you, uh…. did you happen to watch the rest of that movie?

— Alexandra Erin The Meadow We Can Build A Snowman (@AlexandraErin) December 10, 2019

So… we're at the endgame, the final point where Thanos/Trump loses for good?

But a lot of people defended the ill-conceived meme, arguing that it, in fact, fits the president perfectly.

“You just cast Trump as a mass murdering bad guy,” Twitter user @LaurenDownSouth wrote. “I mean you are right but I didn’t expect it of you. And maybe find out how the movie ends because your boy does not come out like a rose.”

You're making a very good point here: in order to achieve anything resembling a happy end in all of this, all the good people of the world need to overcome their differences and join together to defeat Trump and to try and undo everything that he has achieved.Glad we agree.

So he’s going to be responsible for ending half of all life in the universe? Sounds about right.

literally the enemy of Captain America.

Despite the apparent failure, the Trump War Room has opted not to remove the tweet. In fact, the campaign has seemingly doubled down by ignoring all criticism and arguing that Trump’s reelection is inevitable.

The term “inevitable” is, of course, referring to Thanos’ quote moments before he is defeated.

it is inevitable, yes

The failed meme comes just as the House of Representatives unveiled two articles of impeachment against the president on Tuesday.
